Success Story of Filinvest International Deputy Manager "Emelia Cudiamat-Lim"

Very symbolic sa akin ang inidoro.

When I see an inidoro, which I do everyday, tatlong bagay ang naalala ko.

Una ay ang Nanay ko. Tanda ko pa ang unang araw na dinala nya ako sa bahay ng kanyang amo na si Señora Cazzaniga? I was really shocked when I entered the toilet nakita ko sya na nakaluhod sa bowl.

It really pained me but to my nanay, salamat. “I know that you sacrificed a lot and I wouldn’t be where I am now kung di ko nakita sa aking mga mata na ilang beses kang lumuluhod di lamang para ipagdasal kami pero pati maglinis ng inidoro ng ibat ibang tao”.

The Importance of Health Insurance "The Story of AJ Roxas Fil-Am Revived From death in Spain"

NEW YORK CITY - A Filipino-American from New York went into a sudden cardiac arrest while on vacation in Spain.

AJ Roxas, 23, was on vacation in Madrid en route to Barcelona when he went into a sudden cardiac death. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Sudden cardiac death is the largest cause of natural death in the US, accounting for about 325,000 adult deaths in the US each year.

Luckily, Roxas was revived.

Read more on Balitang America.

Without health insurance and the money to pay for all of Roxas' bills, his family created a Gofundme page. As of the latest, the Gofundme page has raised a total of $11,000 out of the $60,000 target.

Meanwhile, there is a Health Insurance in the Philippines that can help us make through our tough times.

COL Fund Source Vs. Traditional Mutual Funds Investing

I’ve been hearing all the buzz surrounding COL Fund Source (CFS), the new product introduced by COL Financial. CFS is the Philippines’ 1st and only online mutual funds supermarket. Since I want to be in the know, I attended COL’s Investing in Mutual Funds via COL Fund Source seminar last August 7, 2015.

If you are not familiar with the Mutual Funds (MF) model, these are pooled funds from assorted investors which are managed by investment professionals and placed in different asset classes like equities, bonds and securities.

Using CFS vs the Traditional Mutual Fund Investment Process

Traditional Mutual Funds Investing Process

I first learned about mutual funds in my third year college finance class. I remember being very excited learning about this financial tool. Pre-MF knowledge, I had thought that the only way to invest in the stock market was by going through it personally. The prospect of having a full time investment professional handle my money and investments seemed like the most sensible thing, specially for someone not well-versed in the stock market.

I had opened my first mutual fund account before that semester ended. I still remember searching for the nearest branch of the mutual fund company I was going to invest in. After taking 2 jeeps, the MRT (dun dun dun) and some walking I finally reached the office. I had to wait though since their was no agent present at the branch. When the financial adviser arrived, I filled out the application form, answered the risk profiler, invested my money and commuted back home.

After a week, I realized I wanted to topup my account so I went to the bank to (I haven’t discovered the wonderful world of online banking then) withdraw and redeposit my money to the MF company’s account. After this, I had to fax (I was told they don’t accept e-mails!) the deposit slip and top up form to branch. Once my balance was received, I received email and SMS confirmation.

I also registered myself on the online website of the MF company where I could check the performance of my account. I opted to get daily emails regarding the unit price of the fund I chose. Apart from these daily email reports I also receive quarterly direct mail reports regarding the status of my investment.

The name of the company may or may not have been changed. You guess.

An Overview of A Winning Mindset For Business Entrepreneurs

Do you know someone who seems to always get what they want?

You might say they’re lucky because everything comes easy for them; but more often than not, the reason why they achieve a lot in life is because they have the winner’s mindset.

Having a winner’s mindset is mostly about having self-confidence, and the ability to make others believe in that confidence.

Unfortunately, many people mistake self-confidence for arrogance, that’s why we sometimes hold back from showing our skills and talents. We fear that others will judge us negatively, and say that we’re a show-off.

But there’s a big difference between someone who exhibits genuine self-confidence, and someone who’s just feeling self-important – and that is achievement.

A person who has accomplished much will rarely be seen as pretentious, while someone who hasn’t done anything other than proclaim his supposed proficiencies will eventually be discovered as a fraud.

So what do any of these have to do with having the winner’s mindset?

Which One Is a Better Investment, Real Estate or the Stock Market?

Mr. Real Estate and Mr. Stock Market are brothers and back in 1992, their grandfather died and left each of them one million pesos.

“Invest the money and make it grow,” advised their parents. So that’s what they did.

Mr. Real Estate saw a property for sale right in the heart of Makati’s Central Business District. The 14 square-meter land was selling at P70,000 per square meter, which he considered a bargain because of its premium location.

Meanwhile, Mr. Stock Market went to the Makati Stock Exchange and bought Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) shares, which at that time was selling at P2.95 per share.

How to compute your earnings in Mutual Funds

Step 1: Determine how many shares you own
When you invest in mutual funds, you are actually buying “shares” of the mutual fund company. (See Introduction to Mutual Funds) The price you pay is the NAVPS or the Net Asset Value per Share, a figure that changes every day since it represents the market values of the investment assets the mutual fund company owns.

Success Stories Part 2 "Miriam Quiambao-Roberto: Rebuilding, Recovering, and Rediscovering God"

mqr2

In the concluding part of this exclusive interview, Miriam Quiambao-Roberto talks candidly about the difficulty of almost losing her life savings to a scam, how turning back to God has given her a better direction in life, and her plans with her new family.

What difficulties did you face in moving back from Hong Kong to the Philippines?
I got married in 2004, and I got back here in 2006. Fortunately GMA quickly offered me a travel show, Pinoy Meets World, which sustained me financially so I had work when I moved back here even when my ex-husband wasn’t providing for me any more. It took us a couple of years before we agreed that he’d file a divorce.

In 2007 I had a financial challenge. I had invested in foreclosed properties again with my friend and investment partner. But in 2007 I learned that our properties were receiving letters from the bank threatening repossession because she wasn’t paying the amortization. It had over 1 million penalties in the bank.

Success Stories "Miriam Quiambao-Roberto: On Rising, Falling, And Rising Again (Part 1)"

Miriam Quiambao-Roberto shot up to international prominence at Miss Universe 1999, where she took the prize of first runner up for the Philippines despite her unfortunate slip and fall. But what captured everyone’s attention was the way she got back up even after falling down. Her graceful recovery from this setback drew the applause of the audience and won her fans the world over.

Who knew that this would become a metaphor for her life? After her meteoric rise, she also suffered a series of setbacks, from divorce to career downturns to being scammed out of her investments. But just like that night in 1999, Miriam got back up again after each setback, and found happiness and security in God and her new family.

In part one of this two-part exclusive interview, Miriam Quiambao-Roberto opens up about the challenges she’s faced, how in an alternate timeline she would have been a physical therapist in Indiana instead of a beauty queen, and why she suddenly left showbiz for a life of luxury in Hong Kong.

When you were growing up, what was your attitude towards money?
My parents taught me to be a saver. At seven or eight years old I already had a bank account. Whenever we received money for helping around the house, or during Christmas when we sang and danced and we got cash rewards from family members for that, I put it all in there.
But in our immature minds we didn’t really understand where we found money or its value. In fact my mom always told me “Money doesn’t grow on trees! I can’t keep on buying the stuff you want me to buy!”
It was only when I grew up and got my own job that I realized that it really wasn’t all that easy to make my own money.
